DOCOMOMO is an acronym for DOcumentation and COnservation of MOdern MOvement. DOCOMOMO SLOVENIA is a satellite unit of the international organisation DOCOMOMO INTERNATIONAL, which consists of over 50 countries all over the world with its headquarters at the Fundation Mies van der Rohe in Barcelona. It brings together experts from diverse professions: architects, art historians, conservationists, sociologists, urban planners, landscape architects and students of the mentioned professions. It strives to raise awareness regarding Modernist architecture by running an international register, organising campaigns, conferences, exhibitions, education and publicity. The coordinator of DOCOMOMO SLOVENIA is Nataša Koselj.
DOCOMOMO SLOVENIA_100 is a scientific monograph, a coproduction of DOCOMOMO SLOVENIA and ab magazine. It represents a hundred buildings of Slovenian architects built on the territory which represented a cultural-political context of Slovenia in the 20th century: Austro-Hungarian Empire, Yugoslavia and independent Slovenia. Beside the well known buildings, also some which were ignored untill now are presented in the publication. The composition of the monograph is tripartite; introduction studies, a catalogue and different listings in the end. Introduction studies are written by well known Slovenian professionals from the field: Miha Dešman, Nataša Koselj, Damjan Prelovšek, Bogo Zupan?i?, Breda Miheli? and Andrej Hrausky. Reviews are written by Stane Bernik and Jelka Pirkovi?.
The exhibition DOCOMOMO SLOVENIA_100 represents the buildings presented in the monograph, with a particular emphasis on the houses of culture in Trieste, Ljubljana, Velenje, Trbovlje and Zagorje. The phenomenon of the houses of culture, which, besides Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, have significantly contributed to rise culture awareness of the workers in the industrial regions of Slovenia in the time of post war Modernism, was ignored until now in the public. The facts show, that many well known cultural groups originate from here, who strongly influenced Slovenian cultural scene in the 80s and 90s of the previous century (Laibach). Accompanying events (round tables, lectures, tours, workshops) will also be organised. Curators of the exhibition are Nataša Koselj and Kristina Dešman.
