A celebration of the life and heritage of Gerrit Rietveld
This way the entire family can take part in a tour of the Rietveld Schröder House. Painting workshops, inspired by Rietveld and the stories of Miffy, are organised while parents can take part in an artist discussion with Dick Bruna himself. Each week we offer discounts which provide free access to the Dick Bruna House. The one week all Gerrits and Dicks have free entry and the following week the people wearing primary colours can get in for free. So keep an eye out for the programme!
The Summer of Dick Bruna is an annual event in and around the Dick Bruna House. This year, however, the Summer of Dick Bruna will not only feature Dick Bruna but also Gerrit Rietveld. Both artists were born in Utrecht, but are internationally known for their outspoken vision with regard to shape and use of colour. The bright colours and stylish shapes predominate in the houses of both artists. Both the Rietveld Schröder House and the Dick Bruna House, featuring the entire oeuvre of Dick Bruna, are part of the Centraal Museum.

During these two days the Rietveld Schröder House can be visited for free. A unique opportunity for those who have never visited the house before. Because this is a house which you should see from the inside at least once in your life. But don’t forget the houses of the Erasmuslaan across the street, which were also designed by Rietveld. The houses are open to the public on this day. From here you can go on a cycling tour through the city along the houses that Rietveld has designed. In the Hoograven area hundreds of council housing units were designed by Rietveld. One has been equipped as a museum house (Robijnhof 13). Admission is free on this day.

Rietveld's Universe, Exhibition20 Oct 2010- 30 Jan 2011
The exhibition Rietveld’s Universe points out that Utrecht architect and designer Gerrit Th. Rietveld (1888-1964) designed much more than only the classic Red-Blue chair and the famous Rietveld Schröder House. Rietveld realized more than one hundred buildings and many pieces of furniture.
The Centraal Museum places Rietveld’s work in a broad context. By focusing attention on the person Rietveld and his manner of working and by comparing him and his work with famous contemporaries like Wright, Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe, the creative genius of Rietveld is set in a new light and a new image of Rietveld’s contribution to 20th century architecture and design is presented. The exhibition is realized in collaboration with the Netherlands Architecture Institute.
