Architizer, in collaboration with publishing house Actar and Storefront for Art & Architecture, invites architects, design offices, freelancers and students around the world to submit their built or speculative work to the TOTAL HOUSING COMPETITION launching October 7th.
The TOTAL HOUSING COMPETITION is an opportunity to celebrate exceptional residential projects. The TOTAL HOUSING COMPETITION coincides with the US release of TOTAL HOUSING, a new Actar publication conceived as evidence supporting the qualities of dense, urban living, and as a hopeful antidote against sprawl. The title refers to the need to understand that social, environmental, and economic factors affect form and that living space is a base for our increasingly complex and varied societies.
The TOTAL HOUSING COMPETITION grows out of the publication's agenda and pushes it further beyond traditional editorial and curatorial practices, mining Architizer for residential projects from emerging designers that escaped Actar's editorial radar or Storefront's curatorial spectrum.
The jury will consist of a diverse group of experts from the fields of architecture, interior architecture, urban planning and development. Chaired by Eva Franch i Gilabert (Director, Storefront for Art & Architecture) and including Marc Kushner (Founding Partner, HWKN, Co-founder, Architizer), Elisa Ours (Vice President of Planning & Design, Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group), Cassim Shepard (Project Director, Urban Omnibus), Lyn Rice (Founding Partner, Lyn Rice Archtitects), Joel Sanders (Founding Partner, Joel Sanders Architects), Dan D'Oca (Partner, Interboro Partners) and Amale Andraos (Partner, WorkAC).
On Wednesday, September 29th from 7pm-9pm, Storefront for Art and Architecture will host the TOTAL HOUSING book launch and TOTAL HOUSING COMPETITION pre-launch. At the event, the TOTAL HOUSING COMPETITION brief will be established through a live discussion with jury members. On October 7th, designers will be able to submit entries on Architizer.com for one month.
Jury deliberation will be held on November 12th, followed by a reception to celebrate the winners at the end of November. Storefront for Art and Architecture will curate an exhibition at its gallery opening on December 10th and in early 2011, Actar will profile selected works in its future publication TOTAL HOUSING: URBAN CONDENSERS.
