The Museum is currently seeking a post-doctoral candidate for a two-year fellowship, renewable for a third year, to support and augment C-MAP research on the study of 20th-century Latin American Art. The group, led by a curator in the Department of Drawings and comprised of staff from MoMA’s Curatorial, International Program, Education, and Publications Departments, together with outside international and local scholars, explores the convergence of themes, discourses, and practices in the visual arts of Latin America throughout the 20th century. The group also has a specific focus on works in MoMA’s collection and such thematic concerns as the relationship between dance, film, poetry, new media, and the visual arts. Possible outcomes of the group’s work and travel include: the acquisition of artworks; research that will benefit the Museum’s program and the field at large; an expansion of the Museum’s international reach and network; and publishing in multiple possible formats for scholarly communication, particularly those online. Based on this plan, devises an outline of necessary research and practical resources. The Fellow will be a co-editor of the web platform and will actively contribute to, as assigned, the writing, editing, preparation, and production of the web materials, which may include: online exhibitions, scholarly writing, travel reports, and formal reports and executive summaries, among other formats. Conducts independent research and, in dialogue with the C-MAP group leader, develops a working annotated bibliography and digital library of relevant articles and publications (including art history, cultural history, exhibition catalogues, reviews, etc.) to support the group research. Works closely with the C-MAP group and the International Program to plan and build research resources that benefit the planning and realization of C-MAP group travel and/or travel by individual group members. Assists the C-MAP group and group leader in the identification of qualified outside scholars, curators, and advisors, who will be invited to participate in the C-MAP group on a short- to medium-term basis. Collaborates with the group leader and members to prepare relevant research materials, biographies, and meeting agendas in advance of such visits. Travels to designated geographies with the C-MAP group to conduct research; visit collections, cultural institutions, studios, and other organizations as required; and participates in meetings with outside scholars, artists, and other groups, as appropriate.
