PB 420 is a social housing building, in a site of dimensions 7,5m by 25m located in Tatuapé, East São Paulo, Brazil.

The three-floor building has two apartments in the ground floor and two apartments in each of the upper floors. In total, eight units in four different typologies.

The two apartments in the ground floor are each 38 and 51 sqm with a small garden, and the upper levels apartments measure each 35 and 42 sqm with a balcony.

The choice for the building’s structure was structural masonry in order to save in time and cost.

Another interesting construction choice was to keep the technical installations apparent in the common and private areas, instead of hidden inside the walls. Making them easily accessible in case of eventual maintenances and avoiding the need to break any walls for that purpose.

In the upper levels, the circulation is open, and from there you can look at the garden in the ground floor and entrance of the building. This architectural situation creates an interesting relation between the common areas and among the residents of the building, as it happens in the old small villages of the neighborhood.

This setback of the building where the open common areas take place, also bring light, green, fresh air to the circulation and the main entrance.

In the ground floor there are bike racks, as the building is located only a few meters from a bike lane that leads to the nearest metro station.

As for materiality and color, the architect worked with the chosen palette (grey, white and red) in a few different materials such as grey stone in the façade wall, and red metallic structures.
