Kenneth Frampton
Kenneth Frampton is architect, critic, historian and professor at the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University, where he has taught since 1972. Born in 1930 in Woking (UK), studied architecture at the Architectural Association in London between 1950 and 1956, and in 1966 emigrated to the U.S., where he began teaching at Princeton University, then moved to the Columbia University. His books and writings, such as Modern Architecture: A Critical History, Studies in Tectonic Culture: The Poetics of Construction in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Architecture, Oppositions or World Architecture 1900-2000: a Critical Mosaic (11) have influenced critics, students and scholars around the world and have become elementary books of any architectural library.
Nicolás Sica Palermo
Nicolás Sica Palermo is a registered architect, with a B. Arch.(2004) And M. Arch(2006) degrees from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in his native Brazil, a second M. Arch. from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona (2008), and is now studying at the latter university for a PhD. At the UPC, he is teaching and working in a research group named FORM: La Forma Moderna, specialized in modern architecture, having several researches on these subjects. Between September and December of 2010 he was at Columbia University as a visiting scholar for a period of research on his dissertation topic “Form and Tectonics: Structure and Prefabrication in the work of Gordon Bunshaft”.
